Air Balancing & Ductwork
Your ductwork is the most overlooked and under-rated part of
your entire cooling and heating system. It is usually hard
to get to, hard to work on, and in an area that is extremely hot
and dirty. Because of this, most contractors choose to
ignore the duct system.
You can't afford to ignore your duct system. If your duct
system is bad, even the best air conditioner in the world will
not make you comfortable. Think of it this way:
Your duct system is like a car.
- Engine = Air conditioning
equipment (engine provides power, A/C provides
cool air)
- Transmission = Ductwork
(transmission delivers power to the road,
ductwork delivers cool air to your rooms)
- Wheels = Grilles and Registers
(wheels direct car, registers shoot the air where
you need it to go)
If your ductwork is ripped, damaged, falling apart or just
improperly designed,
it can cause your entire air conditioning system to operate below it's intended efficiency and capacity.
It is not uncommon to see a duct system with so many leaks that
it is losing up to 40% of it's capacity. That means 40% of
your cold air could be blowing out into your hot attic.
